- Love Island USA revealed the members of its cast on May 28.
- Contestant Vasana Montgomery was removed from the show two days after the cast reveal after fans found videos of her reportedly using the N-word in videos online.
- The show has not made a formal statement about Vasana’s removal.
A cast member of Love Island USA season 8 has already left the Villa, well before the show has even had its premiere. On May 28, the show announced that Vasana Montgomery would be one of the women joining the cast for the show’s upcoming installment, but days later, she was removed after videos of her reportedly using the N-word surfaced online, Us Weekly confirmed on May 30.
According to Us Weekly, Vasana “purportedly sings along to a song that includes the slur” in one of the videos, and also allegedly “says ‘knock knock, n*****’ while playing an arcade game” in a second video. The resurfaced videos led to an outrage by fans online, who later called for Vasana’s removal from the program.
This is not the first time Love Island USA has encountered issues with members of its cast using slurs. Last season, fans found a 2024 social media post seemingly from Cierra Ortega that spoke about her cosmetic work, which used a racial slur toward the Asian community while talking about her eyes. Before Cierra’s removal, Yulissa Escobar was removed in episode 2 for using the N-word multiple times in a podcast interview before her appearance on the show.
Love Island USA has not issued a statement about Vasana’s removal from the show, but ahead of the cast reveal, they cautioned fans to keep the community a safe space. “The Villa runs on good vibes, and so does this community,” the May 27 statement read. “We love seeing your reactions, opinions, and debates, but everyone deserves to feel safe and respected. This is a space for fun, not negativity—so keep it kind, keep it positive, and remember: this is LOVE Island!”
